Table Tonic tips: Cheap mag subscriptions 101

I worship magazines. Inhale them. Can't get enough of them. Which is why I just subscribed to:

(above) AD's March 2011 cover
(Happy to see sprinkles of quintessential Elle Decor DNA on there...)

Architectural Digest "AD" can now boast about having ex-Editor-in-Chief of Elle Decor, Margaret Russell as their top dog. She writes in her first Editor's letter: "Though I’m not keen to use face-lift to describe this issue of Architectural Digest—there’s an element of superficiality to the term—I do consider it a renovation, a word comfortably familiar to those who love the design world. Truth be told, even the most marvelous, exquisitely decorated house needs to be refreshed from time to time, which is exactly what our editors, art department, photographers, writers, and I have been working on over the past two months." Bring it on, Maggie! I'm excited. And PS Around just USD$5.80 an issue, delivered to my door. Excellent. PPS Live "outside the US" like me? Subscribe here.

(above) Lucky mag's March 2011 cover

Lucky I'm a Lucky mag fan from way back. They just do everything... better. And the best bit? USD$2.80 per issue, delivered to my door. If you live "outside the US", click here to subscribe. Thank me later.

(above) That Gaga cover - US Vogue's March 2011 issue

US Vogue When I was on maternity leave after having Jasper (who is 7 next month!), I subscribed to a bunch of international fashion mags. I missed the sound of them hitting my magazine-land desk every week, so I took matters into my own hands. Subscriptions are dirt cheap in the US, even when shipped internationally (as you can see from this post) and I would list them on ebay after reading them, often only to sell them for more than I actually paid! Click here to subscribe if you live "outside the US/Canada" for USD$5.80 an issue, delivered. I know. Ridiculousness! It's no wonder Mr Tonic keep nagging me to "chuck out some of your old magazines"... Never Mr Tonic! NEVER!

  1. Lucky's my fave. Can you subscribe and be rewarded for LuckyMagRewards when you're out of the US? I've saved and been reimbursed over a hundred dollars as long as I've subscribed - it's more than covered the subscription costs. Oh, and I've won at least 3 times in their giveaways in the last few years!

  7. AD delivered to me for under $6??? Tempting... Very tempting...

PS - my bf also hates the piles of mags laying around everywhere. I personally love them! I pick one up whenever I have a free second - and I always put the most beautiful covers on top! I guess it's a girl thing then..

  9. I think one of my favorite days of the month is when my new Lucky arrives and I think it's been that way since 2003! BTW-I heart your blog!

  10. I get in trouble all the time for my magazine hoarding. First it was fashion mags and now that I have a renovators delight/nightmare I've added house mags to the piles around the house.
I might just have to check these out - so cheap!!

  12. Architectural Digest was the magazine that started it all for me. My grandmother used to have stacks of the mag in her Den. And I'd spend hours looking at other people's houses.

  13. SO funny because I just spent hours in a local New York Barnes and Noble scouring Australian home design magazines and crying at the international subscription prices! Lucky is one of my faves and if you are not familiar you should check out People magazine Style Watch. Love your blog!

  14. Hey Louise!

I see you are from the magazine industry !

I subscribed to lucky at the beginning of May but still haven't received June's issue?
its also the same for the other U.S mags (harpers, elle) and even SHOP au from isubscribe...
Does it take this long for your international subscriptions...

    Thanks!

  15. Hi Sar - yes, it can take a while for that first issue to kick in. If in doubt, get in touch with their customer care department. They're usually very helpful. But once you get your first issue, they tend to arrive every month.
    Hope that helps!

  16. I was curious if you ever considered changing the
page layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?

  23. Hi there! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I'm getting sick and tired of Wordpress because I've had problems with hackers and I'm looking at options for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple

but I'm having a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something unique.
