Our dining room, 2 ways!

Last night, I found myself flicking (or should I say clicking) through some of our personal photos from the past 5 or 6 years. Below is a picture of the room we now call the dining room - this photo is actually part of the real estate campaign from all those years ago, when we were looking to buy/bought our house! Interesting to see how the previous owners used the room vs the current arrangement. I think it works both ways, don't you?

  3. Your floors look amazing. Like your way...

  4. It's always interesting to see how other people use the same room for different things. Much prefer your gorgeous dining room - makes the room look much bigger too.

  5. I also love what you did with the floor! Looks amazing! Care to share your methods?

  6. Thanks for all the love, guys!
For the floors, we basically just got them professionally sanded and stained with "Black Japan". If you're in Sydney and want our guy's number, just email me - I'd be happy to share.

  7. the first shots look like a rental (a few uni students living there) and yours, well, what can I say .. stylish, smooth, designer living (but I did notice the greenery out the window - did you kill a tree or was it just overgrown vine - eagle eye's don't I) (-:

  8. Hehe Linda - The old fence needed replacing, so that's the old one (top) and the new one (bottom). We literally stand next to the Jasmine we've planted at the bottom of our new(ish) fence and give it motivational speeches to help it grow faster. It's coming along, slowly but surely!

  11. Hi louise,

Hubby and I are in the process on choosing floor colours and I have always been drawn to the dark floors, white walls and furnishings. Just a quick q, I hear millions of ppl complain about all the dirt and fluff that shows( it doesnt bother me as Im a clean freak) however, do you find it leaves residual spots when mopping? I currently have reddish tone floorboards and unless I go over it with a towel, it leaves unsightly wet marks hence Im doing twice the work. Any feedback would be great. Im looking at Feast Watson Black Japan too. If it was good enough for Carrie and Big's apartment, then its good enough for me!

  12. Love your take on the room Louise. I had to go back to find the fireplace in version 1! New to your blog, and loving it. Amanda

  13. Hi Krissy,
Uh.... I'm afraid yes, it does "leave residual spots when mopping". Barely noticeable though. Unless you have OCD. Scratches can be even more of an issue (eek!). But every second person that walks into our house (I'm talking neighbours, strangers, colesd elivery men) comments on the dark floors... DO IT!!!!!!

  19. great post as i love to see before and after shots - yours is very chic and looks much more spacious!

  20. amazing how the right furniture, accessories and, well, style, can totally make a room! looks like a totally different house! love your look, as we know.

and i second the dark floors - quite the bugger when the sun hits it on certain angles and shows up all the dust/scratches, but still beats a white floor in terms of cleanability AND looks incredibly chic most times. Especially after a good clean.
