Table Tonic trend revival: Maps

Three, slightly left of centre, Maps-as-decor applications. Although it's been kicking around for a bit, I do really love this trend. So graphic and striking. And it just begs to be done in a little boy's room...

And now for some beauties from the Elle Decor archives:

  1. Great post!
I, too, love the map idea.... Such a great way to teach your kids (and less fortunate adults ;) ) the location of current events etc. How can you go wrong?
I did see the (second to last) black star tarcking chart (sorry, I do not know the proper word), and found that one to be the "new" map.....

  4. I used to have one on my wall when I was a little girl and now I love to travel. Connected? You bet. Great post.

  5. I love the first photo - I like the idea of changing the traditional colours of the map to suit the decor.
I've had a world map above my bed in my last 3 houses - it has dots on the cities I've been to!

  6. I recently bought two fabulous vintage nautical maps from a local antique shop. The best part was they were only $7 for the pair! Can't wait to have them framed for our new condo! xx

  7. I love these. My sons room is full of maps. And I took your suggestion and bought the one from These Are Things for my daughter's room.

  8. Showed it to my son he loved it. It is his birthday next week so you can already guess that you gave us a great idea for a present!

  9. Great selection. Love the kiddies one with the cream wall and black side table/chair. Might have too look at doing that for my 6yo's room (he currently wants army theme - hope he grows out of that FAST).

  10. Beautiful post. That Elle Decor shot with the teddy bear in the bed inspired my sons room. I used a Ralph Lauren Nantucket map wallcovering. I did one accent wall and the rest painted taupe of the islands on the map. I pulled a blue from the paper to paint his bathroom, then put the paper on the ceiling. It was so cute. Too cute for him since we moved. I had a few roles leftover and thought we could use it in the new house, but he deemed it babyish. Now he's onto football and hockey posters :(((
